Top World News — October 14, Evening

Good evening. Here is a roundup of the top world stories from Wednesday, October 14, along with a snapshot of crypto and oil markets as traders await today’s US inflation data.

Houthis vow more attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities

Yemen’s Houthi movement on Wednesday vowed to press ahead with attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities, claiming to have fired ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones at Aramco facilities in Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an Aramco refinery in the capital. The group urged international shipping companies, civilians and workers to evacuate airports and oil installations, declaring them legitimate military targets. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted a ballistic missile fired toward Riyadh on Wednesday, hours after a night of explosions over the capital; an aerial-threat alert was issued and later lifted.

Bitcoin flat below $84,000 as traders await US inflation data

Bitcoin traded almost unchanged near $83,430 on Wednesday afternoon, holding just below the $84,000 resistance level as traders waited for the US consumer price index due at 5:30 p.m. Pakistan time. Ether hovered around $2,502. Crypto derivatives data showed about $58 million in bitcoin and ether short positions liquidated over the past 24 hours – a sharp flip from the $193.5 million in long liquidations seen earlier in the week – while altcoins continued to lag, with the Altcoin Season index slipping to 55 from 60.

Market snapshot: Bitcoin $83,430, Ether about $2,502. Oil held its war premium: Brent traded around $106 to $107 a barrel and US crude around $95. All eyes were on the US CPI report for September – expected to show headline inflation near 3.6% year-on-year, up from 3.4% in August – a number that will shape expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next rate decision. Next on the calendar: US producer prices and a speech by Fed Chair Warsh on October 15, the EU summit on October 15-16, and the FOMC meeting on October 28.
